What transit insurance is
Transit insurance covers your goods while they are in the vehicle, from loading in Nagpur to unloading at your new address. It is priced as a small percentage of the value you declare for your goods, which is why the declared value matters: if you understate it to save a little premium, your claim is limited to that lower figure.
It is optional. Many short local moves do not need it, while long distance shifting of expensive furniture and electronics usually should have it.
What is usually covered
- Damage to goods caused by an accident or vehicle fire during transit
- Loss of goods in transit, or damage during loading and unloading by our crew
- Breakage of insured fragile items such as glassware and televisions
- Damage during transit, whether the vehicle is ours or a carrier we have arranged
What is usually not covered
- Damage to items you packed yourself, unless the packing was ours
- Pre-existing damage or old cracks noticed at the survey
- Jewellery, cash, documents and valuables — keep these with you
- Damage from natural events outside the carrier’s control
How a claim works
Photograph any damage before unpacking further, keep the carton and packing material as they were, and call us the same day. We record the complaint, attach your item list and inspection notes, and take it through the insurer. Small losses are usually settled quickly; larger claims need a surveyor visit.
The strongest protection, however, is packing quality. Multi-layer wrapping, correct cartons and a crew that does not stack heavy items on fragile ones prevent most of the damage that insurance would otherwise have to pay for.
